Research: My Favourite Music Video

Miley Cyrus' most recent video 'Malibu' is polar opposite content in comparison to her previous music videos, including the infamous 'Wrecking Ball'. Cyrus seems to of found her way home, by rebranding herself she now has the opportunity to prove and represent the real her to audience. 'Malibu" uses conventions, specifically literal lyrics, throughout the video and uses natural imagery to associate her newly founded brand and connect with her fans. Lip synching is used through the duration, in addition to breaking the fourth wall by seeming to personally gaze and connect with the audience. Cyrus portrays a more homely and naturalistic approach, by relating her song to a place she once found tranquility, yet also being carefree in the sense that she has found herself. Cutting on the beat is also used, proving to be satisfying for the audience, and close ups clearly provide the audience with her new look. Bright coloured balloons run through the video, representing the vibrancy which Cyrus persistently indicates when dancing carelessly and seeming comfortable with her surroundings.
