Planning: Treatment For My Music Video

Artist and Song: Arlissa- New Love

Director: Loris Rhodes

Summary:

My music video will explore the idea of abuse with in a homosexual relationship. Listeners of the song will initially assume the song is about a heterosexual relationship, however I aim to shatter such conventions and assumptions and provide the audience with a different perspective.
Within the video, two gay men are featured, they were engaged until one of the males becomes extremely dominant and controlling and this is when the abuse begins. The victim (Max Ryan), lip synchs the song and the lyrics are amplified and partially illustrated through the visuals. There will be scenes of violence, as well as scenes of which may shock the audience. As well as this, I will use mirrors to convey the idea of 'self reflection', as the victim feels as though he is to blame. This will make the audience realise that this happens and should not be ignored.

Detailed Explanation:

As the piano opens the song, for the opening 11 seconds, scenes of old memories in a warm hue will be used. The abuse will have a cold hue. These memories could be holding hands, laughing together and old pictures, this will be edited to the beat until the artist begins the lyrics.

"I know that I'm a mess", could be an over the shoulder shot whilst Max will be staring in the mirror. He will be seemingly surrounded by mirrors. There will be a lonely and empty expression on his face. He will keep his head down until the next time. "Been bitten in my mind", he will look up and look like he has been crying. Throughout this, he will be lip synching the lyrics. "The rhythm in my chest, it's written in my eyes", Max will turn around and to the camera and look directly into it. On the line, "just vacancy", he will become limp and slowly fall/slide to the ground. "You're so beautiful, look at you" "I could have it all", the couple are at the park on the swings, this will be a close up of the two, yet it will tilt to the abuser more than the victim. "But every time I do just vacancy", begins the scenes of abuse and unhappiness, they will be arguing. The scenes will change on the beat of the piano.

"You can stop waiting patiently", there will be a closeup of an engagement ring. commitment. "Cus its too late for make believe" it will turn to a over the shoulder of him twisting and turning it, being apprehensive of the commitment.  "And I know what you want from me", another scene of Max being hit and abused, this will be a midst or long shot. . "But I can't give you new love", goes back to the mirrors where Max is lip synching with emotion and passion, but there is still something holding him back and this is evident to the audience. "Half my heart is gone for good", "And I wish that I could of been enough", scenes of abuser walking away, Max is left in the corner of a white setting in slow motion this will start as over the shoulder as this will assert the dominance of the abuser and when they walk away, the shot will change to a midst. "But I can't give you new love", back to the lip synching in the mirrored setting, this may be a mid shot.

"I see you waking up, leaving on the light", old pictures are burning in the park, extreme closeup. "Wake up, no, Ill never be ready", will be a scene of the ring again, showing that maybe the commitment is unhealthy, this will be in slow motion as it falls to the floor. This could be a closeup.  "Maybe its been to long, I should be moving on", an argument, it is not violent, this will be a long shot. "Baby he just won't let me", the violence begins. There is a sense of continuity, this shot will be mid shot.

"You can stop waiting patiently", "And I know what you want from me", the abuser picks up the ring and seems to look confused and sad, this will be a midst to capture body language and facial expression. "Cus its too late for make believe","But I can't give you new love", past memories of having fun and messing around, possibly in the street, use of long shot. "Half my heart is gone for good","And I wish that I could of been enough" Max is walking out of the door, the abuser is left behind, over the shoulder. "But I can't give you new love", this time Max is lip synching, there is a sense of confidence since he was left his abusive partner. There is a essence of self-love and happiness within his facial expressions, this will be an extreme closeup.
